Essential Winter Protection

In Colorado Springs, winter temperatures regularly drop well below freezing. Water left in your irrigation lines will expand, cracking pipes and shattering valves. A professional blowout is the only way to ensure 100% of the water is removed.

Rafter Three uses high-volume, regulated compressed air to safely clear your system without damaging delicate components like heads and sensors.

Our Winterization Service Includes:

  • Mainline Blowout: High-volume air injection to clear the primary supply lines.
  • Zone Clearing: Sequentially blowing out every zone until only mist remains.
  • Backflow Winterization: Draining and preparing the backflow preventer for the freeze.
  • Valve Preparation: Leaving valves in the correct position for winter expansion.
  • Drip Line Clearing: Special care for delicate drip emitters and lines.
  • Controller Shutdown: Powering down or setting the controller to winter mode.

Reserve Your Date

Fall blowout slots fill up fast as soon as the first frost is predicted.

The Cost of Skipping Blowouts

Repairing freeze damage is often 5x-10x more expensive than a simple blowout service.

01

Burst Pipes

Frozen water expands with enough force to shatter PVC and poly piping throughout your yard.

02

Shattered Valves

Delicate valve diaphragms and housings are easily destroyed by icy expansion.

03

Backflow Damage

The backflow preventer is the most expensive single component of your system and the most vulnerable to frost.

04

Spring Headaches

Systems that aren't winterized often require days of digging and hundreds in parts during the spring startup.

Winterization FAQs

When is the best time for a sprinkler blowout?
In Colorado Springs, the "danger zone" typically begins in early October. We recommend scheduling your blowout for October or early November to stay ahead of the first true hard freeze.
Can I blow out my sprinklers myself with a home compressor?
Most home compressors have high pressure but very low *volume* (CFM). You need high volume to push water through the entire system safely. Using a small compressor can leave water trapped in low spots and may cause damage from excessive pressure spikes.
Should I turn my water off before you arrive?
Yes! If you know how to shut off the main irrigation valve in your basement or crawlspace, please do so. This allows us to begin the blowout immediately upon arrival.
